The Oil Cleansing Method

Oil Cleansing Method
by Felix Schmieder

The what method for clearing acne?? Yep, I said oil. This is one of my favorite things to do because my skin feels so soft and it seems to keep the midday shine down. This is no small feat as I work in a restaurant and I'm around cooking oils and smoke all day long. The oil cleansing method is one of the cheapest and most effective alternatives to help clear your skin and I still use it to this day just to make my skin look good.

I know you probably think I'm crazy and that this will just break you out, but trust me it won't. Not even a little bit. It will actually clear up your acne and it will make your skin look absolutely radiant. What's best about the oil cleansing method is that you only need two ingredients. Just Castor Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil are all that is required. When you're buying the oils, you might be bombarded with options of cold pressed or organic. Don't worry over these as even the cheapest oils work exceedingly well.

Two important notes before we get started. First you must use extra virgin olive oil and not regular olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is not nearly as thick as regular olive oil and this is pretty important. Regular olive oil will most likely cause you break out if you tried to use it on your face! Just make sure you use the right one.

The other point is that you don't have to use extra virgin olive oil. There are many different oils you can use in place of it, such as grape seed oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil and many others. Personally, I use a 50/50 combination of jojoba oil and grape seed oil. This is because jojoba oil is one of the best natural moisturizers available today and grape seed oil is even lighter in texture than extra virgin olive oil.

Now what you want to do is to mix up the oils, either in an empty bottle or directly in your hands. It doesn't make a difference either way. Mixing them in a separate container just helps keep the mess down. You'll want a ratio of about 10%-30% of Castor Oil to 70%-90% of your other oil(s) of choice. If you tend to have drier skin, opt for a mixture with a lower amount of Castor Oil. Now get a good size amount of oil in the palm of your hand, enough to easily spread it all over your face as well as your neck. Be sure to gently massage the oil into your face for about a minute or two.

If you decide to go with my recommendation of jojoba oil, feel free to try out combinations with higher amounts of Castor oil. Castor oil does tend to dry out your face a bit, but as I said, jojoba oil is one of the best natural moisturizers there is. This counters many of the drying effects of the Castor oil. This was my preferred method because a higher concentration of Castor oil would help clear my skin even faster and would keep it clear.

The next step is to take a small washcloth or towel and soak it in hot water. Don't make it so hot that it will burn you because you're going to want to place the still hot towel on your face. What this does is steam open your pores and allows the oils the penetrate into them. Allow the cloth to cool to room temperature and repeat a few times to get the maximum effect. I really enjoy this part as it's really relaxing, so enjoy it! After you've finished, just wipe the oil off with the cloth. There's no need to wash them off with soap, wiping them off will suffice.

That's it. All you need to do is to splash some cold water on your face. This will close up your pores. Now if you decided to use jojoba oil, you most likely don't need to moisturize. If you do, just a few drops of jojoba will work just fine. If you don't use jojoba and want to moisturize, make sure you get one that is made for sensitive skin, no matter if you're skin is dry or oily or in between. The sad truth is if you have acne, your skin is sensitive and should be treated as such.

While I still use oil cleansing method to keep my skin looking great, I discovered that acne is merely the symptom of a problem. You can never cure anything by focusing on the symptoms, you have to treat the problem. Find out what that problem is at MyAcneHomeRemedies.com
